LIG D&A and Intellectus sign MOU for technological cooperation on physical AI-based unmanned systems

- LIG D&A spearheads the localization of defense middleware and the strengthening of the “K-Defense” ecosystem through shared growth with SMEs
LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) has set out to localize core technologies for Physical AI and robotics-based weapon systems while fostering a shared-growth ecosystem involving large enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
LIG D&A has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Intellectus Co., Ltd., a next-generation middleware solutions company, to cooperate in the development of unmanned systems and related architecture.
Under the MOU, both parties agreed to cooperate in good faith to secure and successfully execute defense projects in this field. Middleware refers to software that sits between different applications and systems, enabling them to communicate with each other. This agreement is particularly significant as it is expected to strengthen Korea's domestic capabilities in defense communication middleware—specifically Data Distribution Service (DDS), which is increasingly becoming the industry standard for the development of unmanned systems.
Under the agreement, LIG D&A will lead the overall design and systems integration for physical AI-based weapon systems, while Intellectus will provide core engine technologies optimized for defense weapon system environments based on its proprietary DDS solution, int2DDS.
Beyond this agreement, LIG D&A plans to broaden shared-growth partnerships across the board with Korean tech SMEs with outstanding technological capabilities, thereby helping to firmly establish the domestic unmanned systems ecosystem and create a virtuous cycle of technological innovation.
